Man shoots himself in Pauri, names associate in video over financial dispute

A 32-year-old man ended his life in Talasari village of Pauri district on Thursday morning after posting a video on social media alleging financial fraud. The Pauri senior superintendent of police Lokeshwar Singh said that the deceased, identified as Jitendra Singh, was found inside his vehicle with a single-bore gun and a cartridge recovered from the spot.

The incident likely occurred around 4 AM. He informed that before the act, Jitendra recorded and uploaded a video on social media, in which he accused a man Himanshu Chamoli of embezzling Rs 35 lakh in a land deal. He stated in the video that mental harassment due to the financial dispute drove him to take the step. The video went viral on Thursday. The SSP said that on receiving information, police teams reached the site and sent the body for postmortem after completion of formalities.  A forensic unit also collected evidence from the site.

The SSP said that the police have registered a case and the person named in the video has been taken into custody. Singh stated that inquiries into financial transactions and other disputes are being conducted. Jitendra, who had been residing in Dehradun with his wife and family, was a native of Talasari. The accused mentioned in the video was an office bearer of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). After the video of the victim went viral, the BJP relieved Chamoli of his duties in the evening on Thursday.
