Anganwadi workers staged a stir at Uttarkashi district collectorate on Wednesday under the banner of Anganwadi Employees Joint Front and Anganwadi Workers Union their over two-point demands. Hundreds of workers gathered and then took out a rally. They staged a sit-in there and thereafter served a memorandum to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami through the office of the district magistrate, demanding a prompt resolution of their demands.
The memorandum demanded that the state government raise the honorarium by Rs 140 per day and that the central government propose an additional Rs 150 per day. Furthermore, social security should be ensured by providing Anganwadi workers with a one-time assistance of Rs 10 lakh upon retirement.
During the rally, the workers alleged that although they are implementing various government schemes, including those related to child development, nutrition, and maternal and child health, they are being neglected. “It is becoming increasingly difficult to support a family with the current honorarium, given the spiralling inflation, while their workload is constantly increasing,” said the district president of the Anganwadi Workers Union, Vijayalakshmi Nautiyal.
