In the murder of gangster Vikram Sharma, some media reports claimed that the accused persons were from Jharkhand. According to these reports, the accused were identified as Akash Prasad, Ashutosh and Vishal. However, when The Pioneer spoke to the Dehradun superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar, he denied these claims.  He said that the police have not identified the accused yet. He added that the police team is working hard to trace and arrest those involved in the case.

On February 13, two accused shot dead Sharma after he was coming out of a gymnasium in the morning. The duo waited for him at Silver City mall on Rajpur Road. When the victim came out the duo shot him and fled with an accomplice waiting for them on a motorcycle to Jakhan. According to sources, the police are investigating angles including gang war, property and revenge.

According to the information the victim had around 50 cases against him, out of which nearly 30 were related to murder, police said. About nine years ago, when Akhilesh was arrested by the police in Jamshedpur, the Jharkhand Police came to Dehradun and arrested Sharma as well. After being released on bail, he settled again in Dehradun. In 2017, he was sent back to jail and later, in 2021, the court granted him bail with certain conditions.
