The chief medical superintendent of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, Dr RS Bisht stated that the appointment of new nursing staff will enhance the facilities and services over time at the hospital. He said this while discussing the recent changes implemented by the hospital administration to improve patient access to health care.
Dr Bisht said that new ward boys and other staff have recently been hired in the hospital. He emphasised that the main focus of the hospital administration at the moment is to prioritise the emergency department, which consistently sees a high volume of patients seeking immediate treatment. In light of this, the availability of staff members has been increased. To enhance the services offered by the emergency department, 24 ward boys have recently been deployed specifically for this area. This will ensure that patients arriving at the emergency department receive timely treatment, as the additional ward boys will assist with immediate services, such as collecting blood samples and attending to patients, he stated.
He added that over time, the services at GDMC will be reinforced and improved. It is anticipated that the appointment of approximately 260 nurses at GDMC hospital will take place soon. With this, the Hospital administration has planned to strengthen its facilities by increasing the number of ICU beds available.
Currently, there are only 80 operational ICU beds, but with the hiring of additional nurses and other staff, this number will be increased by 50. Additionally, dialysis treatment will extend to two shifts. Presently, only 12 dialysis sessions are conducted daily at the hospital, but with the additional shift, this will rise to 24 sessions per day. He also added that, alongside the hiring of nurses, other staff members will be appointed and facilities at the hospital will be improved.
