The 127 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological, Garhwal Rifles and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) organised a joint tree plantation drive in Dehradun on Thursday to celebrate the Harela festival. The programme was held under the campaign “Bhagidari aur Zimmedari” (Participation and Responsibility) to promote environmental conservation and encourage public participation.
Officers, soldiers, personnel and their family members from both forces took part in the plantation drive. They planted saplings of local and indigenous tree species of Uttarakhand to help increase green cover and protect the environment.
During the programme, all participants took a pledge to plant more trees, protect the saplings and conserve natural resources. They said that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and everyone should contribute to building a greener future for the next generation.
The Army officials, associated with the plantation drive, said that the main aim of the “Bhagidari aur Zimmedari” campaign is to turn environmental conservation into a people’s movement by encouraging the active participation of citizens, institutions and families.
