PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya has said that the State government should take immediate cognizance of the problems of the Anganwadi workers of the State. He said that the continued agitation of the Anganwadi workers in Uttarakhand is proof that the government has become completely insensitive and anti-people.

He said that it is unfortunate that the women workers who shoulder the responsibility of maternal and child health, nutrition and are from the most vulnerable sections of society are now forced to take to the streets to fight for their rights. Arya said that Anganwadi workers have been working for years to implement government schemes with limited resources and are responsible for performing crucial tasks and are not even paid their due honorarium on time.

He said that apart from pending remuneration, the building rent has not been paid for the last two years. Similarly, the reward announced during the Covid pandemic has not been paid completely. Arya said that the payment for the cooked food and THR is also pending and there is no provision for transportation. He warned that if the government does not immediately settle the pending honorarium and all other payments of Anganwadi workers, the agitation will be intensified.

Arya added that the Congress party is standing with Anganwadi workers and will raise the issue in the Assembly and outside it.
