The leader of opposition in the Assembly, Yashpal Arya said that the pending dues of Anganwadi workers and assistants should be cleared at the earliest. He said that the Anganwadi workers and assistants provided their services during the Covid pandemic and are now inconvenienced due to delay in payment of their honourarium. He said that they have not received their honorarium for many months in most districts. Further, the government has not paid the rent for the Anganwadi centres being operated in rented buildings for about one year now. Due to this, the Anganwadi workers are facing pressure for vacating such centres, said Arya. There are about 20, 068 Anganwadi centres and 5,140 mini Anganwadi centres in Uttarakhand. About 45,000 Anganwadi workers and assistants work in these centres. They have not received their honorarium for periods ranging from two to six months. Arya said that in such a situation, it has become difficult for them to run their household. Despite this, the government is not paying any attention to their situation. He said that the Congress demands that the pending dues of Angwadi workers and assistants be cleared along with timely payment of the Anganwadi buildings’ rent by the State government.
