The Sports minister Rekha Arya released over Rs three crore to State’s sportspersons who have secured medals in various national and international competitions. Those who coached them have been included in the list of recipients. This amount has been transferred directly to the athletes’ accounts via DBT.
Arya said that the recipients include those who had won medals in international events held between July 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025. She also said that several athletes and coaches who had won medals at the 38th National Games last year had not received their prize money due to incomplete paperwork at that time. These outstanding payments were issued to the remaining athletes and coaches on Thursday.
She also said that the government is fully committed to supporting athletes who bring honour to the State. “Besides, the process of providing out-of-turn employment opportunities to medal-winning athletes is also progressing rapidly,” she said, adding that more positions would soon be made available in various departments with priority to be given to the medalists.
