PWD warns of strict action on delayed road restoration

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The secretary of the Public Works department (PWD), Pankaj Pandey warned strict action against executing agencies that fail to meet the prescribed deadlines and conditions during road cutting in accordance with established rules. He made these statements while conducting a comprehensive inspection of the road restoration projects following road cutting in the city, alongside district magistrate Savin Bansal and other district administration officials on Thursday.

Pandey began his inspection at 6 AM, visiting several key locations, including Dilaram Chowk, Sai Mandir, Canal Road, Dhoran, IT Park, Laxmi Road, Krishali Chowk, Sahastradhara Road, Curzon Road, Mohini Road, Dharampur Chowk and Chanchal Dairy among others.

Pandey emphasised the chief minister’s clear instructions that no inconvenience should be caused to the public due to construction work and all tasks must be completed within the specified time frame.

During the inspection, he found that the road restoration work was satisfactory in most areas. But in some locations, things were not satisfactory with roadside debris impeding traffic flow.  He instructed the relevant officials to ensure complete adherence to the conditions set by the district administration when granting road cutting permissions. Additionally, once the work is completed, roads should be restored promptly and debris should be cleared without delay.

He also directed the Quick Response Team (QRT) of the district administration to ensure their smooth completion while prioritising the people’s interests.

Bansal said that a road cutting committee has been formed to oversee things.  “An affidavit is obtained from the agencies as per which action will be taken against them if any conditions are violated,” DM said.
