The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will undertake the repairing of the minor crack which has appeared on a wall of the Badrinath temple in Chamoli district. The ASI has prepared an estimate of Rs five crore for this purpose. Earlier, on learning about the crack in the ancient temple, the State’s Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar had requested the Union Culture secretary to facilitate necessary steps for preservation of the Badrinath temple. The Union secretary has issued necessary instructions to the officials concerned regarding this.
Jawalkar informed that Badrinath temple is part of the nation’s ancient heritage and that the government is committed to ensuring its preservation. He said that special focus has been laid on protecting the preserving the temple in the Badrinath master plan. After information about the crack was received, the ASI was requested to repair the same. The repair work is estimated to cost about Rs five crore. The work of repairing the wall will begin after the monsoon season. Jawalkar further said that there is a glacier behind the temple. Considering this, central government organisation DGI has been appointed consultant regarding safety of the temple. To ensure that there is no damage to the temple from the glacier, it is essential to build a protective wall. A plan is being prepared for this purpose.
It is pertinent to mention here that a master plan has been prepared for the development of Badrinath on the lines of Kedarnath. The development of Badrinath is among the dream projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The State government is working at a brisk pace on the execution of this master plan.
