Thursday, 19 May 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The Uttarakhand Congress has demanded immediate removal of the district magistrate (DM) of Champawat from his post in view of allegedly political comments made him. The party believes that the DM Narendra Singh Bhandari is working under political pressure. The voting for Champawat by poll would be held on May 31. The chief minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami is the BJP candidate in this election. On Wednesday a delegation led by the general secretary organisation of the Uttarakhand Congress Vijay Saraswat met the chief secretary S S Sandhu and demanded that in view of the assembly by election, DM Champawat should be removed. The Congress leaders told Sandhu that on May 13, the DM gave a statement in the newspapers that the complaint of Congress party against the appointment of nodal officer is wrong because he was appointed on April 30 before the imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the district. The delegation said that the chief development officer (CDO) of Champawat in his letter dated May 7 had clearly mentioned about the orders of CM on May 2 regarding the posting of nodal officer. The Congress leaders said that the DM Champawat is acting like a political worker and under him the chances of free and fair elections are very less. The delegation said that the party would take the issue before the Election Commission (EC) of India, New Delhi if the DM of Champawat is not removed from his position. The delegation included spokesperson Garima Dasauni, Ajay Singh, Jasvinder Singh Gogi, Vijay Pal Rawat, Robin Tyagi and others.
