At least one person died and several were reported missing after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a swollen Alaknanda at Gholthir in Rudraprayag district along the Badrinath National Highway on Thursday morning. There were reportedly 19 people in the vehicle, including the driver. Police said that the bus which was heading towards Badrinath was swept away in the strong currents of the surging river. A massive search and rescue operation has been launched.
Expressing concern, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that he was in constant touch with the authorities concerned, adding that relief and rescue operation is being done on a war footing by SDRF and other rescue teams.
