Kumaun University Teachers Association (KUTA) paid a courtesy call on the State Higher Education minister, Dhan Singh Rawat during his Nainital visit and apprised him of the problems the teachers of the university have been facing and submitted a memorandum, requesting their solution.
KUTA president, Prof Lalit Tiwari who was leading the delegation said that contractual and guest teachers have been working in the university for years without receiving a respectable salary. He further said that as per University Grants Commission, such teachers working in Central and State universities receive a salary of Rs 57,700 per month and added that even the junior researchers receive financial assistance much lower than what their counterparts in other universities receive. He appealed to the minister to solve this salary discrepancy. He further urged the minister to see to it that those teachers who have been working for more than 10 years are regularised.
