The Dehradun district administration on Thursday morning halted the movement on Ramjhula in Rishikesh after it was found damaged near its base due to soil erosion. The erosion possibly occurred due to heavy rainfall and the Ganga river flowing above the danger mark in the area for the past few days, as per the officials.
They said that some cracks were also observed on the bridge in the morning due to which, the district administration ordered that all types of movement should be stopped on the suspension bridge till further orders. The officials concerned from the Public Works Department (PWD) and other departments were called to the site to check the damage to ensure appropriate action can be taken in the matter to prevent any accidents, added the officials.
