Firing incidents continue to raise concern in Uttarakhand’s provisional capital, Dehradun. In the latest incident, a young man was injured after motorcycle-borne men allegedly opened fire at him near Grass Farm on Shimla Bypass Road in Badowala under Patelnagar police station.

As per the preliminary information, the injured man works in a bank in Dehradun. He was travelling on a scooter with his cousin when the attackers allegedly fired at him on Tuesday night. The bullet grazed his abdomen and injured him. Local people took him to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

The circle officer (Sadar), Ankit Kandari said that FIR was already written in the case and police are checking CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers. They are also collecting evidence from the spot and questioning the injured man. The reason behind the attack has not yet been established, the CI said.

The incident has raised concern among residents as the attackers opened fire on a person travelling on a public road.  Despite police drives to curb firing incidents, such cases have not stopped in Dehradun, a local resident said, adding that the city has seen a spurt in such cases in recent years.  Although the police have been conducting drives and taking action against those involved, there has been little visible improvement on the ground, he said.
