The Food Safety and Drug Administration filed cases against six food business operators in Dehradun for alleged violations of food safety rules. The action was taken to ensure that consumers get safe and quality food in the district, FSDA officials said on Wednesday.
A senior food safety officer Ramesh Singh filed the cases before the court of the adjudicating officer and additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue), Dehradun.
Four cases were filed against meat sellers. According to the department sources, the businesses were operating sans registration. Their workers were also found not following proper personal hygiene standards. The department officials said that the sellers did not have the pest control certificates and were operating without agreements with their meat suppliers.
The department also filed two cases after laboratory reports of Gulab Jamun and Chamcham sweets were found to be not in accordance with the prescribed standards.
Officials further said that the action was taken following the orders of FSDA commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and the directions of the district magistrate Ashish Chauhan.
The assistant commissioner, Food Safety, Dehradun, Manish Sayana said that inspections and action against food businesses would continue.
