The authorities managed to clear the national highway to Badrinath which was blocked by debris at various spots following heavy rain in Chamoli district on Friday night. The landslide debris had blocked the highway at Kameda, Nandprayag and Chhinka. However, a total of 128 roads were still blocked by debris and other factors in various parts of the State, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) as on Saturday evening. In the Chamoli district, the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway and Joshimath-Malari-Niti national highway are open for traffic though one State highway and 20 rural motor roads are blocked in the district. In the Rudraprayag district, the national highway to Kedarnath is open till Kund. According to the Ukhimath sub divisional magistrate, some movement has resumed on the Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path even as work on repairing the route is underway on war footing. Even as pilgrimage to Kedarnath by helicopter has resumed, nine rural motor roads and two pedestrian bridges are blocked in the district. The national highways to Gangotri and Yamunotri are open in Uttarkashi district though one State highway and eight rural motor roads are blocked in the district. One State highway and five rural motor roads are blocked in Nainital district while five rural motor roads are blocked in the Bageshwar district. Similarly, one State highway and 14 rural motor roads are blocked in the Dehradun district while 16 rural motor roads are blocked in the Pithoragarh district. Two rural motor roads are blocked in Champawat district while one State highway and one rural motor road are blocked in Udham Singh Nagar district. One State highway and 13 rural motor roads are blocked in the Pauri district while 14 rural motor roads are blocked in Tehri district. There are no blocked roads reported from Almora and Haridwar districts. Efforts are underway to restore all the blocked roads, the SEOC stated.
