Patanjali alleges conspiracy to tarnish the image of Ayurveda
The State government has revoked the ban it had earlier imposed on production of five medicines by Divya Pharmacy of the Patanjali group. On November 9, the licensing authority of the Uttarakhand Ayurvedic and Unani Services had directed the pharmacy to stop production of the five medicines – Divya Madhugrit, Divya Eyegrit Gold, Divya Thyrogrit, Divya BPgrit, and Divya Lipidom. According to Patanjali, these medicines are used to control diabetes, eye infection, thyroid, blood pressure and cholesterol.
The ban was ordered citing repeated contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945. The action was taken in response to a complaint filed by Kerala-based doctor in July earlier this year. The doctor had emailed another complaint to the State Licensing Authority on October 11. However, three days after ordering a ban on the production of the five medicines, the licensing officer of the Ayurvedic and Unani Services stated that the ban on production had been ordered erroneously. Modifying the earlier order, the authority has stated that permission for the production to be kept intact is granted. After the ban was revoked, Divya Pharmacy issued a statement stating that through 30 years of continuous effort and research, Patanjali Institutions, for the first time in the world, has generated the acceptance of Ayurvedic medicines in the form of research and evidence-based medicine.
“Our Prime Minister has been putting untiring efforts to make our country proud of its ancient heritage, by wiping away all signs of slavery. Unfortunately, some of the ignorant, insensitive and underqualified officers of the Ayurveda Licensing Office of Uttarakhand have been tarnishing the entire tradition of Ayurveda. Through such an indiscreet error of an officer, a question mark was raised on the tradition and authentic research of Ayurveda in order to tarnish it. A reprehensible act to maliciously defame Patanjali was done on purpose.
People who strongly oppose Yoga-Ayurveda and Indian traditions keep on making such conspiracies and accusations. It is our duty to take Ayurveda ahead by countering these conspiracies and accusations with scientifically researched facts and evidences,” stated the official release from the pharmacy.
It further states, “It is rather unfortunate and sad that the department whose central task was to establish Ayurveda as the national system of medicine, has been engaged in defaming Ayurveda.
Patanjali is the pioneer organisation in the world to have the largest number of research papers published in the field of Ayurveda and Yoga. Patanjali takes pride in two NABH accredited hospitals and several NABL accredited research labs of international standards, with more than 500 world-class scientists.”
