The district magistrate, Prashant Arya convened a meeting here on Tuesday to discuss the proposals presented by various departments on the Bhagirathi Eco Sensitive Zone. Sources close to the DM said that nine proposals had been discussed at the meeting.
Arya directed the officers concerned to submit projects only after ensuring that it does not harm the sensitive ecosystem and could improve the quality of local people’s life.
Notably, the area from the Uttarkashi district headquarters to Gomukh falls under Bhagirathi Eco Sensitive Zone and projects involving this zone are approved only after the nod of the monitoring committee. The DM stressed that all departments should prepare their plans in accordance with the ecological security rules and directed them to involve the local community actively in the task through organising
awareness campaigns in every village
