The CM said that Bahuguna was not only a skilled politician but also an inspirational personality dedicated to public service. He said that Bahuguna took effective initiatives to address the problems of the mountainous regions. “Bahuguna ji’s entire life was dedicated to the values of public welfare, social harmony and inclusive development. His ideals and thoughts continue to inspire society and guide us in working for the public good,’’ he said. The Uttarakhand Congress organised a programme at the Congress Bhawan to pay tributes to Bahuguna. Addressing the programme, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said that born in an ordinary family in a small village Bughani in Pauri Garhwal, Bahuguna studied in Allahabad university and also participated in freedom struggle. After independence, he became an MLA in Uttar Pradesh and went on to become CM of UP. He also became union minister and later the leader of the opposition. Godiyal said that Bahuguna never compromised on the ideology and believed in secularism. He said that Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna was not a person but an ideology. “Bahuguna ji always formulated policies with the public at the centre of things. Today the government needs to learn from his ideals, but unfortunately, those in power are engaged only in publicity,’’ Godiyal said.
