Heavy rain bettering Nainital: 27 roads closed, rivers swollen

At least 27 roads across Nainital district remain blocked with continuous heavy rains lashing the district, In the last 24 hours, 174 mm of rain was recorded in Nainital, 98 mm in Haldwani and 46 mm in Kaladhungi.
The 27 blocked roads include one national highway, four state highways, two major district roads and 20 rural roads. The district
administration has deployed teams along with JCB machines to the closed routes.
Electricity and drinking water supply has been disrupted, too, in several areas. Besides, several rivers meandering the district are now in high spate like
Gaula, Koshi and
Nandhaur. These are flowing above the warning level and excess water is being released by opening the gates of the barrages.
Meanwhile, traffic remains disrupted with Dhangadhi Nallah (Ramnagar), Sher Nallah and Surya Nallah (Chorgalia area) overflowing and flooding roads. The District Disaster Management Authority has appealed to people not to venture to the banks of the swollen rivers and rivulets and avoid unnecessary travel as long as the rain continues.
