BJP leader slams Khanpur MLA for arrogant comment

Taking strong exception to the Khanpur MLA Umesh Sharma’s recent speech at the recently held students’ union function at DAV- PG College, a senior State BJP leader Ravindra Jugran said that the independent MLA has called himself bigger than the government. “This is a highly condemnable statement, amounting to an insult to the 1.25 crore people of Uttarakhand,” he said.
Notably, scuffles had escalated into a violent clash at DAV PG College on April 11 during a live performance by Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma, shortly after chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s departure from the venue.
“The tone and tenor of the MLA’s speech not just challenged the authority of a democratically elected government but an open incitement to hooliganism. This should not be tolerated. All the political parties, the leader of the house, the leader of the opposition and the speaker of the legislative assembly should take cognizance of this and take appropriate constitutional action. Besides, the speaker should take classes with senior parliamentary experts to teach such arrogant MLAs about what parliamentary decorum stands for,” Jugran suggested.
