BJP mayoral candidate raises concerns over ballot ink smudging

PNS | DEHRADUN

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s mayoral candidate from Dehradun, Saurabh Thapliyal raised concerns about ink stamps on ballot papers smudging onto the reverse side, potentially leading to votes being declared invalid. He stated that complaints and feedback from many voters outside polling booths revealed that the ink on ballot papers reportedly smudged onto the reverse side when the papers were folded after stamping.

He claimed that this smudging could reportedly result in confusion during the vote counting process, with many votes potentially being invalidated. He claimed that thousands of votes might be affected due to this issue. He said that he raised the matter with the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal and other authorities concerned who assured him that the issue will be addressed. He also urged voters on Thursday to handle their ballots carefully to prevent inadvertent errors that could compromise their vote.
