BJP MP from Badaun Dr Sanghamitra Maurya demanded the disqualification of West Bengal’s TMC MP and actress Nusrat Jahan for allegedly giving a false affidavit in parliament and hiding her marital status. Maurya handed over a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently.
The BJP MP demanded cancellation of Nusrat Jahan’s Lok Sabha membership. In the letter, said that the TMC MP’s conduct was indecent.
“She has deceived her voters on the issue of marriage. The dignity of parliament has also been tarnished by her act,” she stated in the letter.
She said that the matter should be sent to the Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha for investigation. Maurya, on a day-long visit to her Lok Sabha constituency, said that Nusrat Jahan lied in the affidavit.
“I have no interest in the TMC MP’s personal life but with her affidavit where she has shown her marital status as married. Her name in the affidavit is Nusrat Jahan alias Noori Jain and her husband’s name is Nikhil Jain. Now she claims that her marriage was not valid. You lied to the public and parliament. There should be an investigation into this matter and action be taken,” Maurya said.
“When Nusrat came to take oath in the Lok Sabha, she wore vermilion on her forehead and had marriage bangles, which is a custom of a newly married woman. I think it was done to fool the people,” Maurya added.
