BJP using money power to influence Panchayat elections: Congress

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Pratima Singh has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of  misusing power and  using money to grab power in the three tier Panchayat elections in the State. She said that in these elections the rural population of the State has completely rejected the BJP and voted against the candidates supported by the BJP in all the districts, yet the BJP has gone overboard to capture the posts of district Panchayat president and Block Pramukhs.

She said that in Pauri, the BJP inducted the victorious district Panchayat member from Jaihari seat into the party who had defeated Neetu Rawat, the wife of Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat. The Congress spokesperson said that in the districts where the BJP candidates have lost badly, the party wants to capture the district Panchayats and block Panchayats by using money to lure the elected members.

She said that first the BJP misused power to alter the reservation cycle in the district Panchayats to get undue advantage and now it wants to tarnish democracy once again by bribing the district Panchayat and block Panchayat members to vote in its favour.
