A young woman died and her brother was seriously injured after a roadside wall of DAV PG College suddenly collapsed on the road on Thursday night, following which a case was registered against the DAV PG College administration on Friday. The Dehradun superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the complaint was filed by Raghuvir Tomar, the brother of the deceased Sushmita Tomar. He said that a wall of the DAV PG College building suddenly collapsed towards the road around 8 PM on Thursday. “Two youngsters who were siblings got trapped under the debris of the collapsed wall and sustained serious injuries. Some local people who were passing by the area retrieved them from under the debris and took them to the nearest hospital. The police also reached the spot after getting the information. The doctors declared the sister Sushmita Tomar as brought dead in the hospital. The brother sustained serious injuries but survived. He lodged a complaint on Friday at the Dalanwala police station regarding the occurrence of the said incident due to the negligence of the college administration. The police have filed a case against the college administration under sections 239, 304 A under the Indian Penal Code,” said Singh. He said that the police will find out why the college administration did not take the required measures to restore or reconstruct the wall despite knowing that it is in a dilapidated condition and could pose a threat to lives and property. He said, “The deceased, who originally belonged to Chakrata, was recently appointed to the post of junior assistant at the degree college in Uttarkashi’s Purola. Her body was handed over to the family after her post-mortem on Friday. It is unfortunate how she had to lose her life possibly because of negligence. The police are investigating the matter and will act against the guilty party accordingly.”
