Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasised that Uttarakhand has significant potential for Malta cultivation. He said this while participating during a two-day Malta Festival hosted by the Seva Sankalp (Dharini) Foundation at the ITBP Stadium in Seema Dwar, Dehradun, on Wednesday.
At the event, the CM engaged with farmers from various districts and savoured the Malta and Khatai of Neembu. He said that the State government has implemented substantial measures to enhance Malta production. He announced the initiation of the Malta Mission aimed at promoting production, marketing and value addition.
Dhami highlighted that this initiative would boost the income of farmers in the hilly regions and provide local fruits with a new national identity. “The State government is also encouraging the cultivation of other local fruits such as Kiwi, Apples, Peaches, Plums and various citrus fruits,” CM stated. He said that events like the Malta Festival serve to connect farmers directly with consumers and markets.
