Two persons died and 20 sustained injuries when a passenger bus overturned on Chamba- Rishikesh highway near Nagni in Tehri on Wednesday. Two of the seriously injured were referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh.
The incident took place on Wednesday morning when a bus of Vishwanath Seva service, travelling from Ghansali to Rishikesh, lost control near a bend, hit a crash barrier and overturned on the road. Panic spread among the passengers as the bus fell and locals informed the police.
The Chamba police station in-charge Dilwar Singh Negi, along with police force and disaster management team, reached the site and rescued passengers from the bus.
A total of 22 people were on board. The senior superintendent of police and additional district magistrate of Tehri also visited the spot and met the injured. The SSP ordered an inquiry into the cause of the accident.
The deceased have been identified as driver Virendra Singh Negi (52), resident of Chamba Suliadhar and Sukhdev Maithani (22), a resident of Ghopardhar, Ghansali. Two of the injured have been referred to higher centres while the rest are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Rampur Khadi, as per the officials.
