In latest news from Doon, to rein in accidents on the Char Dham Yatra route, the State government has decided to withdraw buses 10 years or more of age and 177 wheelbase rules will be applied on the pilgrimage buses. Notably, the government upgraded the wheelbase of buses to operate in mountainous areas from 166 to 177 one and half months ago after the completion of the repairing and widening of road works, but the move was criticised by the locals and the Char Dham transport traders. They say that this initiative has been taken to benefit buses from other states.
The Char Dham Yatra nodal officer Sunil Sharma said that the order has been passed to the effect of disallowing buses more than ten years old in the mountainous roads during the annual pilgrimage and allowing only 177 wheelbase buses.
The buses from other states to be requisitioned for the Char Dham Yatra would have to mandatorily run three trips a day. Depending on requirement, buses would be requisitioned from Saharanpur, Meerut, Muzaffarpur, Moradabad, Bijnor and Bareli.
