Cabinet extends Nazul policy, plans to remove residential areas from Cantt boards

Many decisions were taken by the State cabinet in its meetings chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday. In the meeting the cabinet authorised the CM to take a decision for convening the next session of State assembly.
In an important decision the cabinet approved the proposal to extend the existing Nazul policy 2021. The extension has been granted till the new regulations under the Uttarakhand Nazul land management, settlement and disposal bill -2021 are inculcated. The extension of the Nazul policy will help the people residing in the Nazul land to get their occupation regularised on payment of charges which are 35 per cent of the prevalent circle rates.
The cabinet also gave in principle approval for the proposal to separate residential areas from the cantonment boards in the State. The residential areas removed from the Cantt boards will be included in the nearby civic bodies. The decision once executed will remove the issues of land transfer, construction of buildings and transit of the people residing in the Cantonments of the State.
In another decision the cabinet approved the proposal to abolish the Greater Doon Development Authority. The authority was set up in the year 2015 by including the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority for execution of Dehradun smart city project of government of India. The chief secretary SS Sandhu said that since the MDDA, urban development department and municipal corporation of Dehradun have come together to register Dehradun smart city limited company, the Greater Doon Development Authority has been rendered redundant so the government has decided to dissolve it.
The cabinet also gave its nod to the plan of the higher education department to appoint 25 contractual teachers on the vacant posts of assistant Professors in the government colleges of the State.
In another important decision the State cabinet approved the plan to declare the land in vicinity of the proposed building of Uttarakhand High Court (HC) in Gaulapar (Haldwani) as a freeze zone. The HC building will come up in an area of 26.08 hectare land and a decision to set up a freeze zone has been taken to prevent illegal construction.
The cabinet also decided to hand over the task of constructing a pedestal of Om sculpture at the arrival plaza of Kedarnath shrine to Gujarat based company Infine Art Ventures, Vadodara.
The cabinet also gave its clearance for the proposal to grant government security of Rs 409.047 crore for extraction season 2023-24 to the sugar mills of Doiwala, Kiccha, Nadei and Bajpur. This will help the sugar mills to make payment to the sugarcane farmers.
