The implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is considered to be a major development for Uttarakhand which is also cited as an example across the nation. However, the Home department has not yet been able to fully link UCC to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
This continues to affect citizens in the State. In one such case, a Muslim woman in Haridwar approached the police with a complaint. The police were able to lodge a case regarding triple-talaq but were not able to register a case regarding Halala. According to the sources, the police explained that they could not book a case regarding Halala as relevant sections of the UCC had not yet been uploaded to CCTNS.
It will be recalled that the UCC was implemented in Uttarakhand during January 2025 with the Bharatiya Janata Party claiming it to be a big achievement. According to sources, hindrances are being faced in lodging cases under sections of the UCC due to technical snags. According to sources in the Police Headquarters, the sections are being uploaded to CCTNS and this process will be completed in the near future.
