The workers of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress held a unique protest march to the residence of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday. In the protest, the workers held Rakhis while demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari.
Led by the president of Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela, the protest march to the CM’s residence commenced from near the Survey of India office. The police stopped the protesters from moving forward near Hathibarkala. On being stopped, the workers squatted on the road and started singing Bhajans and songs in the memory of Ankita Bhandari.
The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the CM seeking justice for Ankita Bhandari, status of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and an impartial inquiry for finding the alleged VIP in the case.
Speaking on the occasion, Rautela said Rakshabandhan is a festival of love between brothers and sisters and is dedicated to the protection of sisters.
She said, “We’ve come to awaken the government. Ankita’s Rakhi is asking the government about the status of the CBI investigation. When will the truth about the alleged VIP, about whom the people of the State have been constantly questioning, be revealed? When will the government answer these questions?”
Rautela said that the Mahila Congress is not demanding the prosecution of any innocent person, but whatever facts emerge after a fair investigation should be made public in accordance with the law. She said that the Mahila Congress will continue to raise its voice until Ankita Bhandari receives complete justice.
She added that the Rakhi being given to the CM today is a symbol of respect, security and justice for Ankita as well as every daughter of Uttarakhand.
A large number of women including Asha Manorama Sharma, Pushpa Panwar, Chandrakala Deepa Chauhan, Rekha Dhingra, Anita Saklani and Nandita Gadhiya attended the protest.
