Census 2026: MCD begins training, nodal and technical officers appointed to ensure transparent process

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has started preparations for the upcoming census, beginning structured training sessions for designated officials and staff. The municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said that the detailed framework of the census programme has been finalised and operational guidelines circulated to ensure transparency, accuracy and compliance with administrative directives.
Bansal said that both population enumeration and house-listing operations will be undertaken as part of the exercise. House-listing, a critical pre-enumeration activity, involves systematic identification and verification of residential structures, laying the groundwork for demographic data collection. She added that the manpower assessment is underway, with deployment plans being prepared to ensure time-bound execution across all municipal wards.
To streamline the technical architecture of the process, the corporation has appointed technical support officers and completed the designation of nodal officers. These officers will oversee field-level implementation and coordinate inter-departmental compliance. All necessary directions have been circulated among the departments concerned and compliance will be monitored regularly as per administrative instructions, officials said.
During the first training session held earlier on Monday, staff were briefed on operational protocols, data validation procedures and digital reporting mechanisms. Queries from nodal officers were addressed in an interactive session. Personnel with prior census experience will mentor first-time participants, particularly in handling digital platforms introduced to improve data accuracy and reduce duplication. Bansal said that the internal technical training is being provided to ensure familiarity with the system interface and field protocols. The structured approach, officials noted, is aimed at strengthening data integrity and ensuring census operations in Dehradun are conducted in a systematic and accountable manner.
