In recognition of the State government’s efforts to make Uttarakhand free from tuberculosis, the government of India has awarded the State for excellent performance in community based efforts under the TB free Panchayat initiative.
The Union minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda presented the award to the mission director of the National Health Mission (NHM) Swati S Bhadauria in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The Union minister Nadda appreciated Uttarakhand’s efforts in the field of TB eradication. He said that the excellent performance of the State will prove to be a milestone in future to meet the target of eradication of TB.
Bhadauria said that under the leadership of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat, the campaign against TB is being successfully executed. She attributed the success to the combined efforts of the State government, Health department, local administration, ASHA workers, Panchayati Raj bodies, social workers and the community.
She said that special efforts for comprehensive awareness at ground, immediate recognition, better treatment and community participation were made under the TB free Panchayat initiative in the State. The State has adopted an effective tracking system and multi-sectoral approach in the TB eradication programme.
Bhadauria claimed that Uttarakhand has adopted TB eradication as a public movement where the village Panchayats are being strengthened so that they can monitor and control the cases of TB at their level. She added that under the Ni-kshay Mitra scheme, participation of public representatives, private institutes and social workers is being done which has helped in providing social support and nutrition to the TB patients.
Expressing happiness, the State Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the award reflects the untiring efforts done by the State in the direction of eradication of TB. He said that everyone should work unitedly for achieving the target of a TB free Uttarakhand.
