Chandrashekhar Azad favours Kalagarh as new state capital

The Azad Samaj Party (ASP) has proposed Kalagarh as the capital of Uttarakhand opposing the summer capital Gairsain stating it would be difficult for the underprivileged citizens to approach the government in a capital situated in a remote hilly region.

While addressing a press conference on Thursday, the president of the party, Chandrashekhar Azad said that the State Government requires taking several significant decisions for the welfare of the residents of Uttarakhand. He opined that around 70 percent population that mostly include scheduled castes, reside in the plain areas which make Gairsain an impractical choice for the state capital. Apart from this, he said that the government also needs to make acts on labour protection and minimum wages to restrict the exploitation of the workers by big organisations across the state. Further, he said that the sanitation workers must be regularised by the State Government rather than hiring them on a contractual basis. Moreover, Azad also disclosed that he considers the demands of the farmers valid and supports farmers’ protest.
