Char Dham Yatra vigil: Actions taken against rule violators

To ensure a safe and smooth Char Dham Yatra, Uttarkashi police have increased surveillance on Gangotri and Yamunotri pilgrimage routes. Under the direction of the superintendent of police, Kamlesh Upadhyay, traffic checks, verification of suspicious individuals and encroachment removal operations are going on in full swing across the district. Police said that a traffic police team had slapped penalties on several people for over-speeding and other traffic rule violations under the Motor Vehicles Act during a special checking drive in Singoti area along the Gangotri National Highway. During the checking drive, police advised people to abstain from overloading, drunk driving, over-speeding and bike stunts.
Meanwhile, police teams verified 35 individuals in the Barkot area. Twenty challans were issued against those encroaching roadsides while 14 were issued challans for parking in no-parking zones.
Meanwhile, the Kotwali Uttarkashi police team launched a verification campaign of sadhus living around the Vishwanath Temple. Police say such campaigns will continue to strengthen security during the pilgrimage season.
