Chief secretary directs action on Doon’s mobility plan

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a meeting regarding the mobility plan for Dehradun city at the secretariat on Thursday. During the meeting, the chief secretary enquired about the progress of the traffic congestion plan for Dehradun city.

Bardhan directed all the officials concerned to soon start the process for improvement at the identified spots under the mobility plan. He said that the work should start within the next one month. He also said that that enforcement should be tightened to check the violation of traffic rules in the provisional State capital. The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal was directed to regularly monitor this so that the works are completed on time.

The chief secretary further directed that new parking spaces should be marked and prepared for use consistently. The Public Works Department officials were directed to also work on underground parking facilities in the city. A feasibility study should be conducted to check the scope for underground parking at available spaces in areas including the secretariat, Parade Ground and Chakrata Road. Bardhan also sought detailed information about the Indira Market redevelopment project and the Adhat Bazaar relocation project. He said that the Adhat Bazaar land allotment process should be completed in November so that further steps in the project are started. Regarding the Indira Market project, he said that work on the first and second phases should be expedited. He also directed the Transport department to start the operation of new buses soon while also enhancing awareness on traffic rules.

Additional secretaries Vineet Kumar, Reena Joshi, Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal and Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation’s Brijesh Kumar Mishra and others were present in the meeting
