After a video showing school children carrying firewood for the mid-day meal had gone viral on social media, causing a stir within the administration, the district magistrate Mayur Dixit ordered a thorough investigation. The children study in a government primary school in village Ajitpur, located in Bahadrabad block of Haridwar district. The DM’s order comes after an administrative investigation found the content of the video to be prima facie true.
Earlier, based on the investigation report, the district Education department took significant action and suspended the school’s headmistress with immediate effect.
The district administration clarified that making children work in any form is against the rules and not only demeans the dignity of the education system but also violates child rights.
Taking a stern note of the matter, the DM had directed the Education department to ensure that such incidents do not recur. He has also directed a review of the arrangements for mid-day meal distribution in schools.
