MCD steps up preparations for Swachh Survekshan 2026

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has initiated preparations to secure a better ranking in Swachh Survekshan 2026, with a focused strategy to improve performance across key evaluation parameters.

Municipal officials said that to secure maximum marks under various indicators set by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and improve the overall ranking of the capital city. To achieve this, the corporation has launched a special 100-day programme, concentrating on strengthening sanitation systems, waste management and enhancing public participation.

The Swachh Survekshan 2026 framework carries a total of 10,500 marks, distributed across 10 major parameters. These include visible cleanliness, solid waste management, Swachhata awareness initiatives, waste segregation and collection, sanitation access, used water management, citizen feedback, institutional parameters, Safai Mitra welfare and mechanization of desludging services.

Visible cleanliness, solid waste management and Swachhata advocacy carry the highest weightage of 1,500 marks each. Waste segregation and collection, sanitation access, used water management and citizen feedback are allocated 1,000 marks each, while institutional parameters account for 1,000 marks. Safai Mitra safety and mechanized desludging services carry 500 marks each.

Deputy municipal commissioner Tanvir Marwah stated that all parameters have already been assessed and work has begun on each point to ensure improved performance. He added that the corporation is making efforts to secure a top position in the rankings.

Last year, the MCD secured the 62nd rank in Swachh Survekshan, showing marginal improvement compared to previous years. However, officials believe there is scope for improvement across several parameters.

Keeping this in view, the civic body has intensified efforts to strengthen sanitation systems, ensure efficient door-to-door waste collection, improve waste disposal mechanisms and increase public awareness campaigns across the city, he added.
