In latest news from Uttarakhand, a helicopter being airlifted by an Indian Air Force MI -17 chopper for repairing purpose crashed into a river near Tharu Camp. Notably, the same chopper carrying pilgrims for Kedarnath shrine had to do emergency landing due to technical snag a little ahead of the helipad on May 24 though the passengers were unhurt.
The district tourism development officer Uttarakhand Rahul Chaubey said that when the chopper was being lifted by an IAF MI-17 chopper to have it dropped at Gauchar the IAF chopper started losing balance due to the weight of the helicopter it was lifting. Sensing the danger, the pilot had to drop it in a river near Tharu camp. On receiving the information of the heli crash, a rescue team rushed to the spot.
