Chukam villagers end 22-year dominance of single family

After electing members of one family successively for 22 years, the residents of Chukam village in Ramnagar finally elected a person as Gram Pradhan who is not a member of the family.

Breaking the long-standing dominance of a single family, villagers have elected Saurabh Kumar as their new Gram Pradhan. He won the election by a margin of 69 votes.

It is noteworthy that Jasiram was first elected as a Block Development Committee member in 1997. In 2003, he became the Gram Pradhan, followed by his wife Sumitra Devi being elected to the post in 2008. Jasiram once again held the position in 2014, and in 2019, his daughter-in-law Seema Arya was elected the Gram Pradhan.

This time, Jasiram’s son, Rakesh Kumar, contested the election against Saurabh Kumar. With a total of 307 votes, Saurabh Kumar defeated Rakesh Kumar who received 238 votes.
