MCD meets target by planting one lakh saplings

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has met its target of planting one lakh saplings under the Harela campaign. The plantation drive, which began on July 16 concluded on Thursday.

The saplings were planted at multiple locations including Kulhan, Danda Lakhond, Kargi, Arcadia, Mothrowala, IT Park and Badowala, among others. The civic body will ensure regular maintenance of the saplings for long-term benefit, the Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal said. Thapliyal inaugurated the city’s first vertical garden in the presence of Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal. The vertical garden, developed by the MCD, covers 420 square feet and holds more than 1,400 dust-absorbing and air-purifying plants. Following the inauguration, the mayor and the commissioner participated in a plantation drive.
