Develop one model skill centre in every district: CS to officers

Chief secretary Anand Bardhan has directed the State administration to set up at least one model skill centre in every district of the State. These centres will focus on skill development, certification and 100 percent placement. The CS directed the officers concerned to prepare a holistic plan for this purpose.
He gave the directive while chairing a meeting held to review the works of the Asian Development Bank and the Uttarakhand government’s construction departments. In the meeting, the officers of ADB discussed ongoing projects of various departments in Uttarakhand.
In the meeting, the CS requested ADB officials to work on skill development projects in the State.
He directed the Public Works department to submit a proposal to the ADB for funding for the construction of bridges and the treatment of landslide zones in the State. The CS also reviewed the Tehri Lake Ring Road project being funded by the ADB and directed that the project should be taken on priority.
Bardhan said that various projects of the Horticulture department could also be funded by ADB. He recommended that proposals from districts other than those funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), be funded by ADB. The CS also called for urban mobility and urban planning to be included in ADB’s programme. He suggested that plans for greenfield and brownfield township development projects be prepared and submitted to ADB.
The CS stated that all departments must prioritise their projects. He directed them to submit proposals to ADB in a phased manner, prioritising their most important projects.
The country director, ADB Mio Oka discussed various ongoing projects in Uttarakhand. Expressing satisfaction with the Uttarakhand government’s work on new projects, she urged departments to provide proposals soon.
Principal secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary Nitesh Kumar Jha, Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Dilip Jawalkar and others attended the meeting.
