CM directs Irrigation Dept to make 10 year roadmap

Directing the officers of the irrigation department to prepare a roadmap for next ten years on the best practices they can adopt, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the schemes should be prepared while focusing on the interests of farmers.
The CM stated this while chairing a review meeting of the Irrigation department at the state secretariat on Tuesday. In the meeting he said that committees headed by chief development officers (CDOs) should be set up in the districts and apart from the Irrigation department the committee should have representation from the Agriculture and Horticulture departments as well. Dhami said that the Irrigation and Minor Irrigation departments should work in coordination with the Agriculture and Horticulture departments. He said that the Irrigation department needs to focus on the mountainous areas and added that emphasis should be on horticulture to increase the earning of the people residing in these areas. Terming Song and Jamrani multipurpose projects as important schemes for drinking water and irrigation, CM said that pending works should be cleared soon.
He directed the officers that pending works in Kolidhek, Tharcot Lake and Gagas reservoir should be completed without delay. He also directed the officers to start sprinkler based irrigation in one village in every block on pilot basis. He said that the drainage plan for the urban areas of the state should be prepared and special focus should be on water conservation and water harvesting. Dhami opined that effective and concerted efforts are needed for increasing the capacity of the reservoirs.
On a terse note, Dhami directed that the officers should decide on the date of next meeting today itself and should ensure that all the information about the decisions and targets taken should come up for discussion in the next meeting. The additional chief secretaries Radha Raturi, Anand Bardhan, secretaries R Meenakshi Sundaram, Shailesh Bagauli, HC Semwal and SN Pandey, additional secretary R M Rayal, head of Irrigation department Mukesh Mohan and others were present on the occasion.
