Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to remain in an alert mode round the clock for disaster management during the ongoing monsoon. Chairing a high level meeting here on Saturday, the CM said that senior officials of the State administration should maintain regular coordination with the district magistrates. The availability of all essential facilities, food grains, medicines and other relief material should be ensured in the mountainous regions during the rains, he said. Dhami sought information from the Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat about the status of rain and condition of roads in these regions. He directed both the commissioners to regularly monitor the condition of roads, drinking water and electricity supply, cleaning of drains and other arrangements in their respective regions. They should maintain regular coordination with the district magistrates to ensure that all the arrangements are in place. Swift measures should be taken in case of disruption of road links, drinking water and power supply to restore these facilities. The decision to close or open the schools should be taken according to warnings issued by the meteorological centre and on the basis of the local weather conditions, he said. The condition of damaged bridges should be assessed and the movement of people in rural areas should not be affected, the CM directed.
