CM felicitates police officers and sportsperson on Independence Day
Govt to develop model local body in each district: Dhami

The State government will develop a local body in each district as a model local body with the aim to improve governance and infrastructure at the grassroots level. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said this on the occasion of Independence Day here on Thursday. Dhami also honoured several officials and athletes for their contributions in various fields on August 15.
He awarded the commandant of Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Manikant Mishra and superintendent of police of Uttarkashi, Arpan Yaduvanshi with the CM’s commendation medal for distinguished work. Besides this, the additional superintendent of police of SDRF, Vijendra Dutt Doval and platoon commander, IRB II, Pratap Singh Tomar was also awarded with the CM’s commendation medal for meritorious service. In the field of sports, Dhami honoured athletes who had brought laurels to the State at international events. Priyanshu, who won a gold medal, and Rahul Sarnaliya, who secured a silver medal at the 5th Asian Youth Athletics Championship held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2023, were among those honoured. Their coach, Lokesh Kumar, was also recognised for his contribution in their success.
Besides this, the CM also made several important announcements on Thursday. He announced awards for outstanding farmers and entrepreneurs in the sectors of industry, horticulture and agriculture to encourage excellence in these fields. The first, second and third prizes will be Rs one lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. He also announced the implementation of the Employee Personal Loan Scheme for regular employees belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Divyang (differently-abled), and Other Backward Classes. This scheme is expected to provide financial support to these employees for personal needs. He also said that there will be an increase in the monthly income limit for eligibility under various pension schemes, including the old age pension scheme, widow pension scheme, divyang pension scheme and abandoned women pension scheme to support vulnerable sections of society. The limit will be raised from the current limit of Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000 per month. Dhami also announced the formulation of a policy for the comprehensive welfare of senior citizens.
The government will also launch the Chief Minister’s Fisheries Wealth Scheme with a budget of Rs 200 crore to curb migration from the mountain areas and boost trout fish production. Besides this, he also announced the establishment of one model veterinary hospital in each district at a cost of Rs 75 crore to provide modern veterinary services to the livestock owners. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 11 lakh families engaged in animal husbandry across the State, he added.
