CM launches sports promotion scheme in U’Khand

The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the Mukhyyamantri Khiladi Protsahan Yojana on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand at an event here on Tuesday. Dhami said that this scheme aims to provide assistance to 2,600 players between the ages of 14 and 23 years. Both boys and girls from each district will receive benefits under this initiative. Each player will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 2,000 and an annual sum of Rs 10,000 for sports equipment. During the event the CM also cheques to beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Udiyaman Khiladi Yojana.

Dhami also made various announcements during the programme. He said, “A 200-bed hostel will be constructed for the students of Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun. In addition, a 50-bed hostel will be constructed for the students of Hari Singh Thapa Sports College, Lelu, Pithoragarh. The daily food allowance of the players of Uttarakhand will be increased from Rs 250 to Rs 480 per day per player like in the Sports Authority of India. The players of Uttarakhand participating in the national competitions will be provided the facility of AC bus or three-tier AC train,” he announced.

The CM said that the State government is actively working towards the promotion of sports. A new sports policy has been implemented to support and develop sports and athletes in the state. The chief minister’s sports development fund has been established to provide prompt financial assistance to athletes according to the established guidelines. Provisions have also been made to offer financial aid to athletes in case of accidents during competitions, training camps and travel. Additionally, regulations are being formulated to allocate a five per cent sports quota for admissions in professional courses in universities, he added.

Sports minister Rekha Arya said that the State government is consistently striving to enhance the promotion of sports in Uttarakhand. Moreover, all the necessary preparations for the upcoming national games scheduled for the following year, are currently underway. She emphasised that the implementation of the new sports policy will greatly benefit the players in a highly productive manner.
