Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has said that the statement of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in which he has said that the parents of Ankita Bhandari will be consulted before taking any decision on the issue is an attempt to evade responsibility.

In a statement on Tuesday, Godiyal said that the CM has broken his silence nearly 20 days after the sensational disclosures made by Urmila Sanawar in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.  He said that the CM’s statement that the directive of parents of Ankita Bhandari will be followed for determining future course of action, is an insult to the constitution and the law.

The PCC president said that the State government has been evading the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the Ankita case for the last three years. He said that the CM should tell the people as to why a High Court monitored CBI probe is not being ordered in the issue which has shaken the collective conscience of the people of Uttarakhand.

Godiyal claimed that following the Justice for Ankita Bhandari Yatras in different parts of the State and anger of the people the BJP government has come under the pressure.  “Mere statements will not deliver justice to Ankita. The resort was demolished, the evidence was destroyed and fire incidents occurred two times while the place was in police security,’’ he said.

Godiyal said that the Congress is firm on its demand of HC monitored CBI probe in the case and the CM should immediately convene a meeting of the State cabinet and order CBI probe.
