BJP welcomes decision to consult with Ankita’s family, questions Congress’ stand

The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the decision of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to consult with Ankita Bhandari’s family members before taking a decision on escalating the investigation into her murder. The BJP also criticised the stance being taken on the issue by the Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal.
The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt responded to Godiyal’s allegations stating that from the stage when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) began probing the case to the advocacy in court, all was done keeping the bereaved family in confidence and with their consent. Considering this, there should not be any issue with taking the family’s opinion now. It appears as if the politically motivated Congress wants to spoil the atmosphere instead of letting the truth come out. The bereaved family’s opinion is of no value to the Congress, Bhatt said.
He said that as soon as the incident came to light, the State government acted swiftly with sensitivity and seriousness, focusing on the investigation and strong advocacy in the court, due to which the convicted persons were sentenced to life imprisonment. “It is public knowledge that the Bhandari family was in the loop during the investigation and court proceedings. Now an atmosphere of uncertainty is being spread through an unverified viral video to generate suspicion. The government is serious and has already stated that it is ready for any type of probe if any credible proof is provided. However, those levelling allegations on social media are not coming forward and the opposition is spreading propaganda, which is why it is now necessary to talk to the Bhandari family and ascertain their opinion. The government will consider their opinion and take a proper decision based on it,” Bhatt said.
