In an achievement in the field of Himalayan wildlife conservation in Uttarakhand, the assistant professor (Wildlife Management) at the College of Forestry, Ranichauri of Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Uttarakhand Horticulture and Forestry University, Bharsar, has been included as a member in the Bear Specialist Group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). He has been specifically appointed to the Asiatic Black Bear Expert Team, which will work from 2026 to 2029 to scientifically assess the conservation status of the Asiatic black bear, update the IUCN Red List, strengthen conservation strategies and enhance regional cooperation to reduce human-bear conflict.
The university sources said that Yadav’s research has primarily focused on human-wildlife conflict in the Himalayan regions, particularly human-bear conflict and bear conservation.
“Strategies developed by the expert team will prioritise scientific data, field experiences and the participation of local communities,” said a senior university officer, adding that the selection of a teacher-scientist from Uttarakhand in the IUCN expert team is also an important achievement for the university fraternity.
